Sunshine Coast Council expansion of the Nambour Landfill captured industrial land formerly used to manufacture stock feed (former Cow Candy Site). Previous contaminated land assessment identified residual contamination, and we were asked to review past reporting and devise a strategy delivering the best value for Council in terms of management of contaminated land whilst achieving the desired outcomes.

We further assessed the relevant portion of the land parcel for contaminants of concern via a test pitting program to prepare a remediation and validation strategy. In this instance the strategy was succinct and designed for Council to use their available resources and undertake the remediation works themselves in a manner protective of the environment and community.

Contaminated soil excavation and bio-remediation was followed by validation of resulting excavations and on-site bioremediated soils. Completion of reporting for Council records allowed the desired land use and documented Council’s compliance with relevant State legislation and guidelines.
